She and Sunny were still sitting in their car, parked in the lot outside Bay Breeze Resort. The engine was off, but her anxiety was revving.

“You’re being silly now,” Sunny chuckled. “We’ve seen at least seven girls go in since we got here, and trust me, not even one of them looks better than you.”

“Your opinion doesn’t count,” Malini said, her voice shaky with nerves. “You’re my boyfriend. You’re supposed to find me beautiful. That doesn’t mean everyone else will. And it’s not even about looks. I know I’m attractive. But I’m the only idiot who came in a saree. Every other girl’s been wearing a gown.”

“So what?” Sunny raised an eyebrow. “They didn’t mention any dress code, did they?”…
